With all of the great things to do in Northwest Ohio over the holiday season, it can be difficult to keep track. At Hawaiian Pools, we compiled a list of many of the Holiday Happenings for 2018.

Northwest Ohio HolidayThe Stranahan Theater is located in south Toledo, on Heatherdowns Blvd, and hosts some spectacular holiday shows. This year, they are presenting:

Elf The Broadway Musical takes place from December 11-16th. The New York Times calls it, splashy, peppy, and sugar-sprinkled entertainment’. Elf takes place in New York, when one of Santa’s Elves comes to town from the North Pole to find his father. It’s a story about holiday magic, love, and family.

The Nutcracker comes to life through the performance of The Toledo Ballet with exquisite dancing, breathtaking scenery, and Tchaikovsky’s unforgettable score performed by the Toledo Symphony Orchestra. Toledo Ballet’s Nutcracker is a performance you and your family will remember for years to come. The dates are December 8th and 9th.

Kenny G brings The Miracles Holiday and Hits Tour to Toledo on December 2nd.   In 1994 he released his award-winning Holiday CD, “Miracles”. That was followed by three more successful Holiday CD’s “Faith” in 1999, “Wishes” in 2002 and the “Greatest Holiday Collection” in 2005. We will all be treated to the best of the best of these Holiday classical traditions and contemporary classics.

The Lights Before Christmas will be November 16 – December 31st.The Toledo Zoo doesn’t disappoint with their holiday display of lights. Enjoy a crisp walk along the paths, enjoy a hot, steaming cup of apple cider, and take in all the sounds of holiday music. This is a fantastic opportunity for family and guests that are visiting during Christmas. Since the Toledo Zoo is open during the winter, you are sure to find a sun-filled day to enjoy the animals, also.

The Valentine Theatre is located in the downtown district of Toledo, Ohio at the corner of Superior and Adams Streets. The 122-year-old facility hosts many events during the holidays including:

Ballet Theatre of Toledo, performing the Nutcracker. The dates are Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, November 23-24th. When midnight strikes on a chilly, frost-dusted Christmas Eve, Clara and her enchanted Nutcracker Prince are whisked away to a magical world of toy soldiers, mice, dancing snowflakes, and a Sugar Plum Fairy in the dazzling Land of Sweets. Join us again or start a new holiday tradition with your loved ones.

Toledo Repertoire Theatre presents A Christmas Carol, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, November 30th-December 2nd. A holiday delight that shows the true meaning of the Christmas spirit lived out through Ebenezer Scrooge and Tiny Tim.

Silver Screen Classic; “It’s a Wonderful Life” will be shown on Friday, December 14th at 7:30 p.m. You’ve seen it on television, why not experience this holiday classic on the ‘silver screen’ this year? Fun fact: It’s called a silver screen because the screens were actually made with silver in them.

Annual Holiday Concert presented by the Toledo Jazz Orchestra – Saturday, December 15th, toe tap and sing along to many great holiday classics!

The Metropark system in Northwest Ohio offers miles of hiking trails that you and your family can enjoy during the winter months.

Holidays at the Manor House. Ring in the holidays at one of northwest Ohio’s most festive celebrations. For over 40 years, community volunteers have transformed over 30 areas of the Manor House at Wildwood Preserve Metropark into a holiday wonderland. Tour the Manor House and see why over 25,000 people make Holidays in the Manor House an annual tradition.

New this year: 
Holidays at the Ice-Skating Rink. Bringing the rink to Wildwood for everyone’s holiday enjoyment. Watch for more details. 

S’mores, S’mores and more S’mores. Stop at the S’more Hut and make a s’more over an open fire on your way to or from the Manor House compliments of your Metroparks.

Holidays in the Hall. Take a short walk from the Manor House to Metroparks Hall featuring one of their most beloved displays - the remote-control trains are moving to the Hall this year. Watch for more details.

Carriage Rides. Take a leisurely ride through scenic Wildwood Preserve aboard a carriage pulled by Molly and Sally -- the mule team from Providence. This experience is being offered on the weekends to make your visit to Holidays in the Manor House even more memorable. Cost: $6/person (children under 5 free if they sit on an adult’s lap).

Don’t miss out on these other great holiday happenings:

Take a step back in time to the home of Rutherford B. Hayes at Spiegel Grove in Fremont, Ohio, and enjoy an enchanted ride with your family, or significant other. The rides take place daily, December 26th-December 31st.

The Trans-Siberian Orchestra takes the stage at The Huntington Center on November 30th. Their music and light show is a hit every year!

Disney On Ice presents Frozen, Thursday, December 20th-Saturday, December 23rd at The Huntington Center. Be a part of Anna’s adventure to find her sister, Queen Elsa, whose icy powers trapped the kingdom in an eternal winter. Join Olaf, Kristoff and Sven as they encounter wintry conditions and mystical trolls in a race to bring back summer. 

The Arthritis Foundation’s Jingle Bell Run is a fun way to get out, get moving and raise funds and awareness to cure America’s #1 cause of disability.  This event takes place at The Shops at Fallen Timbers on December 8th. Wear your ugly Christmas sweater, tie jingle bells on your shoe strings, or wear a holiday themed costume as you run for a great cause.

Don’t forget about Ottawa Park’s ice rink. This is the only open-air ice rink in Northwest Ohio and Southeast Michigan. You can bring your own skates, and your own thermos of hot chocolate, too!

Before we forget, it’s easy to get to some of the best sledding around with just a short drive. Pokagon Park, located in Angola, Indiana offers fantastic toboggan runs, as does Kensington Park in Milord, MI. You can find places for sledding, snowshoeing, and cross-country skiing at most park systems, also.

With all the wonderful holiday happenings this year, you’ll hardly miss your inground swimming pool.
